From January 2015 all GP practices are free to register new patients who live outside their usual practice area, but there is no obligation on the practice to provide home visits for when the patient is unable to get to the surgery.  This means that the patient may live in London, but work in Littleport and would like to register with this practice as it is easier for them to attend for routine appointments etc.  However, the doctors here must assure themselves that it is clinically appropriate (safe) for the patient to be registered in this way.

If the patient is unwell and unable to attend our surgery and the doctors feels that the patient requires a home visit, that visit will not be done by this practice.  Where possible, the visit will be done by the practice within whose boundary the patient lives.  Our doctors will need to be sure that the local practice is willing to undertake home visits.

If the patient is willing to accept this limited registration, and the doctors here are happy that there is cover for local consultations and home visits at the patient’s home address, we can register the patient.

Registered Patients that move Out of our Area can request to remain registered at this practice.  However, the same conditions apply in that the doctors must agree that it is clinically safe to do so and the patient accepts the limitations of this type of registration.

Therefore, each request to register a patient from out of our area will be individually reviewed.

All patients are encouraged to "share" their records but this is especially important for patients from out of our area.  The will enable the local doctor to see the patient's full medical record if required.
